Can't Afford Court Filing Fees?
- Individuals who receive public benefits or have low income may qualify for a waiver of court filing fees.
- The application requires Form FW-001 (Request to Waive Court Fees) and Form FW-003 (Order on Court Fee Waiver).

Received Small Claims Court Papers?
- Do not ignore the papers; failing to appear can result in a default judgment against you.
- You can settle the case before the trial, ask for a mediation, or file a Defendant's Claim if the plaintiff owes you money.
- Check the 'Proof of Service' to ensure you were served correctly according to California law.
- Prepare your defense by organizing relevant documents and identifying witnesses who can support your case.
Preparing Documents for an Apostille?

- California documents must be authenticated by the California Secretary of State.
- Notarized documents must include a proper California Notary acknowledgment or jurat.
- Vital records must be certified copies issued by the State Registrar or County Recorder.

- Ensure you are using the most current version of the form, as they are updated frequently.
- Use the Judicial Council website search tool to browse forms by category or form number.
